Rinse the tank with clean water until it runs clear, and use a mild, non-toxic cleaner if needed—avoid bleach or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the seals. Apply a silicone spray to the rubber seals occasionally to prevent drying and cracking. When storing the toilet between trips, leave the seat or waste cap slightly open to allow airflow and prevent musty smells. Regular cleaning helps extend the life of your camping toilet and keeps it fresh for every off-grid adventure.

It doesn't require chemicals to flush, but adding a toilet deodoriser or waste breakdown solution to the tank is a good idea—especially if you're using it for a few days or in warm weather.

With a 20L waste tank and up to 50 flushes, it usually lasts 2–3 days for 1–2 people with part-time use. For daily use, plan to empty it every 1–2 days.
