Additional Information
- The ongoing costs for this system are pretty similar to what you’d expect with a standard septic system.
- The filtration tank is compact, less than 1 cubic meter, and uses a mix of pine bark, sand, and gravel. We include a filter cloth, but to keep shipping costs down, you’ll need to source the sand and gravel locally. Don’t worry, we provide sample bags to help you pick the right materials.
- A filter cloth keeps the pine bark and sand separate. Over time, the filtered material and bark will compost. Replace the bark annually with fresh bark from your local garden nursery.
- If your distribution area is downhill from the tank, your engineer can design a system that doesn’t need a pump. If it’s not downhill, you’ll need a pump and pump well.
- The treated water must go into trenches specified by your engineer. Ensure they don’t include toilet water in their size calculations to avoid unnecessary expenses.
- For optimal performance of the filtration tank, it's important to separate food scraps and grease from kitchen wastewater using a grease trap.
This system is ideal for DIY greywater system installations in cabins, caravans, and homes, helping you manage water responsibly while enjoying the outdoors.
